Somerset — Here are the stories the Commonwealth Journal is following for Saturday:

• A Somerset man was arrested on two counts of attempted murder following a Thursday shooting incident in northern Pulaski County.

Anthony Merrick, of North Ky. 1247 was taken into custody in Lexington after being taken to the University of Kentucky Medical Center.

• Proposed realignment plans for Kentucky Senate and House districts unveiled in Frankfort Thursday and Friday reconfigure the 15th Senatorial District in a north-south direction to include Pulaski, Lincoln and Boyle counties, and realigned House districts divide Pulaski County into four districts instead of five.

If approved as expected during a special session of the General Assembly, beginning Monday, Russell, Casey and Adair counties will no longer be part of the 15th Senatorial District, and the sliver of Democrat Terry Mills’ 24th House District in northern Pulaski County will be pushed away

• A Pulaski County man who pleaded guilty to assault and DUI charges in connection with a March accident that left him and his young daughter severely injured was sentenced this week in court.

James “Jimmy” Jasper, 56, of Somerset, appeared Friday before Pulaski Circuit Judge David A. Tapp for a sentencing hearing.

•They say there are only two certain things in life. One of them tends to come up at school board meetings — taxes.

Each local public school district is preparing to hold public hearings in preparation of the yearly tax hike.
