Pulaski, Southwestern deadlock in Warrior Track Invitational

— For the second time this season, Pulaski and Southwestern boys track teams have tied for top honors in an invitational meet.
Less than two weeks ago the two local teams tied for top honors in the Whitley County Colonel Classic Invitational.
At Southwestern High School on Thursday, Pulaski and Southwestern were knotted up again as they tied for top team honors with 147 points apiece in the sixth annual Warrior Classic.
Sophomore Chris Muse paced the Maroons with a 38-point performance and three individual gold medals. Muse won the 110 hurdles with a time of 16.18, won the long jump with a best of 20’1.5”, won the triple jump with a best of 40’5.5” and placed second in the 300 hurdles with a time of 42.98.
Southwestern junior Sabastian Rhode picked up the distance double with wins in the 1600 meters and 3200 meters. Rhode won the four-lap race in a time of 4:47.6 and the eight-lapper in 10:29.6.
Warrior senior Jacob Belwood won the 800 meters in 2:04.6. and finished second in the 1600 meters with a time of 4:49.7. The Southwestern 3200-meter relay team of Rhode, Belwood, David Light and Seath Whiles easily won with a time of 8:35.7.
Southwestern junior Adam Diamond won the shot put with a best of 40’10”. Pulaski’s Daryn Meece won the discus with a best of 121’9” and finished second in the shot put with a best of 40’7”.
Somerset senior John Cole has had very little time on the track this spring. But he has spent just enough time on the oval to help get in his required meets and post one of the top Class A 100-meter times in the state.
Cole blew away the field with a personal best of 10.53. His nearest competitor was more than seven meters behind him.
The Lady Warriors finished runner-up in the girls division with 113 points. Southwestern was paced by Kotey Crowe and Devin Fothergill.
Crowe won the pole vault with a best clearance of 7’6”. Fothergill won the high jump with a best of 4’10”.
The Southwestern 400-meter relay team of Allison Briones, Erica Haynes, Elizabeth Eaton and Fothergill won with a time of 54.78.
Somerset junior Sabra Alexander won the 200 meters in a time of 28.35.
Pulaski’s Kayln Bowers won the 3200-meter run in 13:03.2.
Somerset junior Alex Jones won the shot put with a best of 31’2”.
