Former Warriors guide Club Cats to World Series

The University of Kentucky recognizes club baseball as one of 35 specialty sports for student organizations. The Kentucky Wildcats club baseball team competes in the National Club Baseball Association which has 146 colleges and universities competing in 32 conferences. The NCBA is the fastest-growing inter-collegiate baseball league in the United States. The Wildcats compete in Division II in District V that play Xavier University, Northern Kentucky University and Wright State University.
The Wildcats beat Wright State University in two district championship games this past weekend and earned a berth to the Division II NCBA World Series in Huntingburg, Indiana on May 16-20. The Wildcats will play the District IV champion, North Greenville University on May 16 at 4:00 at the Huntingburg League Stadium.
Former Warriors standouts, Kirby Mayer and Brandon Hranicky played major roles in the success of the Wildcats this spring. Mayer, the Wildcats SS, is hitting .400 as Hranicky who plays IB, DH and P is hitting .375.
In game one of the District championship against WSU this past Sunday at Constitution Park in Lexington the Wildcats beat the Raiders 10-4. In game two the Wildcats jumped out to an early 12-4 lead but squandered the lead in the 5th inning. In the 6th the Wildcats tied the game at 13-13 and in the top of the 7th Mayer delivered a suicide squeeze bunt to put the Wildcats up 14-13. The Raiders were home team in game two due to championship round. Hranicky pitched the bottom of the 7th striking out one and getting two pop-outs to preserve the victory and a berth to the World Series. The Wildcats won the district with an 8-2 record.
