Maroons rebound to down Clinton Co.

By LARRY WINTERLAND, CJ Sports Writer

Somerset We all make mistakes. Some make mistakes more than others. It is a part of life. Those that make the mistakes hope teams do not make them pay.

No such luck Tuesday night.

The Pulaski County Maroons took advantage of a ton of Clinton County mistakes to rebound from Monday night's loss at Corbin. They put up three in the fifth and five in the sixth to win 9-2 and to improve their record to 13-11.

Monday night, the Maroons had a 9-1 lead but lost 14-10 in a wild game down south. Tonight, the Maroons jumped on top early but fell behind again in the third inning when Clinton County plated two runs.

"We started real slow tonight. Last night's loss had our guys down a little bit today" said Scott McAninich. "It took a while to get ourselves going but I am glad we did."

The Maroons took advantage of eight Bulldog errors in the game. In the fifth, Ben Burton beat the throw to first when the throw went into the outfield. Andrew Crawford went to third. Both would later score.

Crawford came hustling into home plate when catcher Donavan Edwards threw the ball into left field trying to throw Crawford out.

Burton, who kept his head up the entire time went to third base and came jogging home on a wild pitch when things seemed to be settling down. Burton's run gave the Maroons the lead 3-2.

"We didn't hit the ball hard all night. Give them credit. Their pitcher was solid tonight. It's a good thing they did make some mistakes."

In the sixth inning, the Bulldogs made more mistakes. Jared Burgett singled to left field later scoring on a wild pitch.

Crawford was hit by a pitch and later scored when Kevin Wesley hit a ball to third that was misplayed.

Steven Dowell pitched a complete game and with the exception of the first two innings, seemed as in control as a pitcher can be that gave up nine hits.

"Dowell is steady. You will not hear me say this often. He is consistent and he needs to waste some pitches. That is not some thing I will ever say again, (McAninich said with a small smile) but he really needed to waste some pitches. Get the ball up or get it down. He has to give them some thing different to look at. He did pitch well though."

McAninich thought the team would be a bit flat coming out in against the Bulldogs after what happened last night. It was an ugly win by the Maroons but a win they will be glad to be on the plus side of.

No matter how ugly the score board says it is.

Pulaski travels to McCreary Central on Thursday and are back home Friday against Harrison County. The Maroons have three home games left this season.
