The Pulaski County High School tennis doubles team of Charissa Burkett and Natalie Pitman topped the 2009 Commonwealth Journal All-County Tennis Team.
Burkett and Pitman played as the Lady Maroons top female singles seeds before teaming up as a strong doubles team.
Burkett and Pitman qualified for the KHSAA State Tennis Tournament by placing third in the 12th Region Tournament.
The Lady Maroons duo went into the regional tournament as a fourth seed with a season doubles record of 11-3.
The Somerset doubles team of Ricky McWain and Noah Polk dominated doubles play in the local area by going undefeated in county play. McWain and Polk earned a number four seed going into the regional tournament.
Somerset’s Zeeshan Asif was last year’s Commonwealth Journal Player of the Year after he qualified for the 2008 KHSAA State Tournament. Asif had another strong season on the courts and was ranked the fifth best singles player in the region.
Southwestern High School’s Caleb Lowndes is a two-time Commonwealth Journal all-county selection for his strong singles play. Lowndes was the 12 Region’s seventh ranked singles player.
The Somerset High School doubles team of Jenny Tan and Desta Lissanu were unbeaten in the county during regular season doubles play.
