2008 All-County Baseball Team

Wooldridge, Wallen named tops in baseball

By STEVE CORNELIUS, CJ Sports Editor
Commonwealth Journal

Somerset Power and speed were great assets for the two Commonwealth Journal 2008 Baseball Players of the Year. Southwestern’s T. T. Wooldridge and Somerset’s Adam Wallen had both power and speed, but in different ways.

Southwestern junior T. T. Wooldridge had power at the plate and speed on the base paths and in the outfield. Wooldridge had the highest batting average in the county by batting an amazing .483. Even more impressive, Wooldridge had a .627 slugging percentage and a .504 on base percentage.

Wooldridge led the Warriors in almost every category as he hit 15 doubles, had 74 total bases, 10 stolen bases and 35 RBI’s.

Somerset senior Adam Wallen had power at the plate and speed in his arm as one of the Jumpers’ top hurlers.

Wallen led his team with a .415 batting average and smashed 6 home runs.

Wallen had a 8-3 record on the mound and was called on to pitch in many of the Jumpers’ biggest games. Wallen was able to maintain a low 1.92 earned run average while on the mound this season.

Now, let’s look at the rest of the 2008 all-county baseball team.

Somerset senior Corey Price had a .380 batting average and belted five homers. Price had a 5-2 record on the mound with a 2.58 earned run average.

Pulaski sophomore Charles Hines batted .362, had 19 runs batted in, 3 triples and 3 home runs. Hines, also had wheels on the base paths with 26 runs scored and 4 stolen bases.

Somerset senior speedster John Cole blazed the base paths with 31 stolen bases. Cole maintained a .394 batting average and had 14 doubles, 6 triples and 2 home runs.

Southwestern sophomore Tyler Mayer batted .382 and had an on base percentage of .500. Mayer led the Warriors with 36 runs scored and was a solid infielder at second base.

Somerset senior Kenny Hughes had plenty of power at the plate with a .374 batting average and slamming 4 home runs. Hughes, also used his speed to leg out 12 doubles and 3 triples.

Southwestern senior Josh Wilson batted .336 on the season and belted 3 home runs. Wilson had 29 RBI’s on the year and had 7 doubles. Also, Wilson had a 4-2 record on the mound.

Somerset senior Chase Hall used his strong arm to gun down 21 of the total of 25 base runners who tried to steal bases on the Jumper catcher. Hall, also batted .382 on the year.

Pulaski senior Logan Hargis had a .306 batting average on the year and batted in 14 runs. Hargis stole 12 bases on 14 attempts and scored 18 runs on the season.
