Local United Way hosts 23rd annual golf scramble

The United Way of South Central Kentucky's 23rd Annual Golf Scramble was held Wednesday, Aug. 6, at Eagle's Nest Country Club. Twenty-four teams enjoyed perfect weather and raised money to benefit 28 health and human service agencies in the 10-county Lake Cumberland area. The tournament, open to all area golfers, added $15,035 to the 2008/2009 United Way Campaign.
The team of Barry Daulton, Ryan Tucker, Mark Butcher and Brad Butcher were first in the event with a gross score of 52 and a net score of 48.9. The foursome earned a $400 Eagle's Nest Country Club Pro Shop gift certificate and trophies.
Todd Wood, Larry Wesley, Rodney Stevens and Phil Grundy placed second with a gross score of 56 and a net score of 49.5. They won a $200 Eagle's Nest Country Club Pro Shop gift certificate.
Gary Conley, Barry Branscum, Eddie Girdler and Wendell Hyden were third in the scramble with a gross score of 59 and a net score of 51. They won a $100 Eagle's Nest Country Club Pro Shop gift certificate.
Twenty-three area businesses sponsored holes on the course and the following golfers won the hole contests: Tom Clouse - $50 gift certificate to Eagle's Nest Country Club Pro Shop from First Southern National Bank; Jack McNeely - Kingsford charcoal grill from Kingsford Manufacturing Company; Brad Butcher - $50 gift certificate to Eagle's Nest Country Club Pro Shop from Papa John's and Penn Station East Coast Subs; Rick Halloran - $35 gift certificate to Eagle's Nest Country Club Pro Shop from Barry Daulton, CPA; Phil Grundy - $25 gift certificate to Eagle's Nest Country Club Pro Shop from Gorilla Lift; Ernie Shepperd - $25 gift certificate to Backyard Burgers from Backyard Burgers; Rick Halloran - $25 gift certificate to Hardee's BP of Science Hill from Hardee's BP of Science Hill; Shane Lewis - Golf shirt from Citizens National Bank; Ryan Tucker - $100 Gift Certificate to Eagle's Nest Country Club Pro Shop from Alton Blakley Ford; Gary Conley - $50 gift certificate to Eagle's Nest Country Club Pro Shop from Team Modern; Ryan Tucker - $50 gift certificate to Eagle's Nest Country Club Pro Shop from First & Farmers National Bank; Brad Butcher - $50 Gift Certificate to Somerset Cinemas 8 from Eagle Realty and Development; Glenn Blevins - Lands End Golf Jacket from Monticello Banking Company; Roger Gover - $50 gift certificate to Eagle's Nest Country Club Pro Shop from Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital; Rodney Henry - $25 gift certificate for Southern Belle dairy products from Southern Belle Dairy Co., LLC; Brad Butcher - A power drill from South Kentucky RECC; and Chris Cornelius - $50 gift certificate to Eagle's Nest Country Club Pro Shop from BB&T.

Goodie bags were provided by Food Fair and Team Modern. Raffle prizes were donated by Woodson Bend Resort, JC Penney, Belk's, Dawhare's, Eagle's Nest Country Club Pro Shop, Somerset Country Club, Big K Mart, B& H Shoes, and General Burnside Island Golf Pro Shop.
