Cardinals, Jets win LCYFL Classic titles

— Pee Wee "Classic" Championship

Somerset Steelers - 0
Casey Co. Rebels - 6

A game most expected to be a shootout turned into a defensive struggle as the Rebels claimed the "Classic" championship 6-0 over the Steelers.
The Steelers took the opening kickoff and drove the football down to the Rebels 6 yard line and appeared to be headed for the games first score but the Rebel defense stiffened and turned the Steelers over on downs ending the Steelers threat. This was the only drive of the first half by either team where the offense was able to get into the red zone.
With the game tied at 0-0, the Rebels took the second half kick, marched the football down to the Steelers 4-yard line. With 2:04 to play in the third quarter Rebel tailback Haden Bastin slipped up the middle for the touchdown. The PAT failed and the Rebels led 6-0.
Once again it was the defenses that took over from there as neither offense was able to move the football. The Steelers mounted a final drive with 3 :21 to play in the game, moving the ball to just inside the Rebels’ 20-yard line, but the Rebel defense once again rose to the occasion stopping the Steelers preserving the Rebel lead and giving the Rebels the hard fought 6-0 win for the "Classic" championship.
The Steelers offense managed just 90 yards of total offense. Quarterback Kade Grundy accounted for 69 yards on 15 carries.
The Rebels offense could only manage 85 yards of total offense. Quarterback Reece Brown tallied 48 yards on 10 carries, while Haden Bastin had the games only touchdown while rushing for 35 yards on 11 carries.
The Steelers defense was led by Drew Johnson with 8 tackles, Jace Bruner added 5 tackles.
The Rebels defense was led by Haden Bastin's 8 tackles, Hunter Richards added 6 tackles. The Rebels Haden Bastin received the games "Big Hit" award while Reece Brown was named the games MVP.

Junior "Classic" Championship

Somerset Cardinals - 19
Casey Co. Rebels - 13

The Rebels were playing the role of spoiler in this game and for the better part of three quarters were living up to the role.
The Cardinals found themselves in unfamiliar territory trailing at the half 13-7. The Rebels got on the board first when Dalton Lawrence powered his way into the end zone from 2 yards out with 3:01 remaining in the first quarter. The PAT failed and the Rebels had the early lead 6-0.
The Cardinals answered when Ty Tevis hauled in the Chase Walker 10-yard pass for the touchdown. The PAT was good and the Cardinals were on top 7-6.
The Rebels appeared to be headed right back out to take the lead when Britt Pendleton raced down the sidelines toward what appeared to be a go ahead touchdown, but Cardinals cornerback Josh Cornett chased Pendleton down-stopping him just five yards short of the goal line.
From there the Cardinals defense, feeding off Cornett's gutsy effort, held the Rebels for plays and turned them over on downs stopping the Rebels threat. The Rebels would however find the end zone just before the half when Dalton Summers bulled his way to paydirt for the 1 yard touchdown run. The PAT was good and the Rebels led going to the break 13-7.
The Cardinals, like great championship teams do, took advantage of the halftime break to regroup and make adjustments. After receiving the second half kick, the Cardinals offense marched right down the field and Ty Tevis tied the game at 13-13 with a 3-yard touchdown run.
From there the Cardinal defense took the game into their hands and shut down the Rebel offensive attack. The game remained tied until the 8:22 mark in the fourth quarter when the Cardinals Josh Cornett raced 46 yards around the end for the go ahead touchdown. The PAT failed and the Cards led 19-13.
The Rebels offense would get two more possessions to try to overtake the Cards, but the Cards defense answered like true champions, turning the Rebels away both times, preserving the Cardinals lead and giving them the 19-13 win.
The Cardinals offense accounted for 176 total yards. Ty Tevis paced the Cardinals offense with 86 yards rushing on 16 carries and two touchdowns. Josh Cornett added 66 yards on 8 carries and a touchdown.
The Rebels offense tallied 167 yards of total offense, with Britt Pendleton carrying the load, rushing for 110 yards on 18 carries, while Dalton Lawrence and Dalton Summers had a touchdown each. The Cardinals defense was led by Josh Cornett with 9 tackles, while Collin Hartman added 6 tackles.
The Rebels defense was led by Dalton Summers with 6 tackles. The Cardinals Josh Cornett was presented with the "Big Hit" award and Ty Tevis was named the games MVP.

Senior "Classic" Championship

Somerset Jets - 44
Casey Co. Rebels - 0

The Somerset Jets may not have gotten out of the gates as quickly as they usually do but in true workmanlike fashion the built a 19-0 halftime lead and never looked back cruising to a 44-0 shutout win over the Rebels.
The Jets’ Jordan Doan scored on a 30-yard run midway through the first quarter to put the Jets on top 6-0.
Doan found the end zone for a second time, once again on a 30-yard sprint to the end zone pushing the Jets lead to 12-0 early in the second quarter.
The Jets would score once more before the break, this time Zach Thacker would cruise in from 16 yards out and with the PAT the Jets led 19-0 at the half.
The third quarter saw the Jets find the end zone two more times. First, Zach Thacker would score his second touchdown of the game, this on a 26-yard run. Then, the Jets’ Eli Brown would power his way into the end zone from 2 yards out, this would be his first of two touchdowns.
Brown's second came just minutes later, this on a 23-yard touchdown run. The Jets’ Chase Madden closed out the scoring on a 6-yard run late in the fourth quarter.
The Jets offense finished the day with 277 yards. Zach Thacker accounted for 78 yards on 11 carries and a pair of TD's. Eli Brown had 95 yards on 10 carries and two TD's. Jordan Doan would chip in with 74 yards on 5 carries and two TD's.
The Jets defense held the Rebel offense to just 23 yards of total offense. The Jets defense was led by Zach Thacker's 9 tackles, Adam Waddle had 6 tackles, Canaan Reynolds and Carlos Canella had 5 tackles each. The Jets Zach Thacker picked up the "Big Hit" award while Jordan Doan was named the games MVP.
