Somerset — The Lake Cumberland All-Stars came into Friday evening’s 2013 8U District 5 Tournament needing three wins to come away with a district championship at the Ward Correll Sports Complex.

Lake Cumberland won their first two games of the night, earning victories over Rockcastle County and Casey County to force a third game. The third game, however, would not be as good as the first two were for Lake Cumberland, as they fell to Casey County by a 2-1 margin.

In that third game, Lake Cumberland struck first, tallying a run in the top of the fifth frame when Jaden Coggins scored on a single from Ethan Gadberry. Casey County responded with a run of their own in the bottom half to tie the game up at 1-1.

With the score knotted at 1-1 heading into the bottom half of the sixth frame, Casey County needed just one run to come away with the victory. Thanks to a walk-off single, the Casey County All-Stars would get that run and come away with a one-run victory over Lake Cumberland to claim the district title.

In game three, Kameryn Hargis led the charge for Lake Cumberland with two hits. Chance Todd, Will Blankenship, and Gadberry also had a lone hit in the game.

To earn a match-up with Casey County, Lake Cumberland disposed of the Rockcastle County All-Stars in the first game of the night by an four-inning, 14-3 victory. It was a great game at the dish for Lake Cumberland, as all 11 batters had at least one hit in the 11-run win.

The trio of Connor Phelps, Jace Frye, and Zach Ousley tallied a game-high three hits, while Hargis, Todd, and Will Blankenship finished with two hit’s apiece.

Hargis, Frye, Blankenship, and Ousley all had two RBI’s apiece in the game one victory over Rockcastle County.

Casey County looked as if they would run the table in game two, as they ran out to a 5-0 advantage Lake Cumberland would not go down without a fight however, as they overcame that early deficit to come away with an 8-7 victory to force a third game.

Blankenship was the go-to guy for Lake Cumberland in game two, as he tallied a club-high three hits and chimed in with two RBI’s. Gadberry, who also had an RBI, had two hits for Lake Cumberland.

Phelps, Frye, Brady Cain, and Carson Ryan also had a hit in the one-run win over Casey County.
