The Somerset-Pulaski County 15-year-old Babe Ruth All-Stars are used to winning state championships at the East Kentucky Babe Ruth State Tournament.
After claiming state titles as 13-year-olds and 14-year-olds, Somerset-Pulaski, this time as 15-year-olds, they claimed their third consecutive state championship in a row with a 12-0 victory over Southeastern on Monday evening at Pulaski County High School.
With the 12-run win over Southeastern, this group of 15-year-olds became the first-ever group of Somerset-Pulaski players to sweep through their Babe Ruth all-star careers with state titles at every age level.
To say that Somerset-Pulaski breezed through their tournament competition would be an understatement, as they outscored their four opponents by a margin of 48-0. In their four victories, the local all-star team scored an average of 12 runs per games.
In Monday night’s championship tilt, it was all Somerset-Pulaski, as they put on a clinic at the plate, scoring 12 runs on 14 hits. Defensively, Somerset-Pulaski was solid, giving up two hits and committing zero errors on the night.
Somerset-Pulaski jumped out to a 3-0 advantage in the top half of the first inning thanks to a three-run home run from Trevor Howard. Neither team would put any runs across the plate until the top of the sixth inning, when Somerset-Pulaski exploded for nine runs to grab a 12-0 lead.
Aaron Estes pitched phenomenal for Somerset-Pulaski, throwing a complete-game shutout. A. Estes, who tossed six innings, gave up a pair of hits and had 12 strikeouts in the win.
At the plate, Wade Purvis tallied a game-high three hits, while Hunter Cromer, A. Estes, and Howard all had two hits apiece. Howard led the way in RBI’s with three, while Purvis, A. Estes, Devin Vaught, and Logan Estes came up with two RBI’s each.
With the state title, Somerset-Pulaski advanced to the Babe Ruth Ohio Valley Regionals, which will get underway July 24th in Zanesville, Ohio.
Members of the state championship team are: Hunter Cromer, Devin Vaught, Wade Purvis, Trevor Howard, Logan Ramsey, Aaron Estes, Dylan Shadoan, Logan Combs, Justin Walker, Isaac Stephens, Evan Saindon, Logan Estes, and Landon Powell.
