Warriors sweep the 2014 Senior Meet

Somerset — In the 2014 Senior Swim Meet on Monday night at the Somerset Family Fitness Center pool, the Southwestern High School swim team downed both Pulaski County High School and Rockcastle County High School.

In the combined team scores (boys and girls) Southwestern downed Rockcastle 124-97 and the Warriors downed Pulaski County 137-79. In the boys team scores, Southwestern downed Rockcastle 68-11 and beat Pulaski 59-34. In the girls team scores, Southwestern downed Pulaski 78-45, but Rockcastle beat Southwestern 86-56.

Pulaski sophomore Andrew Gray and Southwestern eighth-grader Trey Newell III, both picked up multiple individual wins in the meet.

Gray won the boys’ 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:24.22 and won the boys’ 500-yard freestyle event with a time of 5:59.93.

Newell won the boys 100-yard freestyle event with a clocking of 1:06.64 and won the boys 100-yard breaststroke event with a time of 1:33.19.

Southwestern freshman Layne Thrasher won the boys 50-yard freestyle in a time of 27.08.

Southwestern junior Breanna Bogle won the girls 100-yard butterfly in a time of 1:22.48.

Pulaski eighth-grader Alondra Avina won the girls 100-yard backstroke in a time of 1:20.28.

Pulaski’s Wiley Cain won the boys 100-yard backstroke in a time of 1:09.64.

Southwestern senior Valerie Gregory won the girls 100-yard breaststroke in a time of 1:27.01.

The Southwestern girls 200-medley relay team of Breanna Bogle, Caitlyn Keathley, Kayla Williamson and Valerie Gregory won their event in a time of 2:21.44.

Southwestern boys 200-yard medley relay team of Evan Roberts, Aaron Schmidgall, Layne Thrasher and Trey Newell III, won with a time of 2:06.99.

The Southwestern boys 200-yard freestyle relay team of Evan Roberts, Matt Wood, Trey Newell III and Aaron Schmidgall won their event with a time of 1:58.85.

Pulaski and Southwestern will be competing in the Snowball Invitational this weekend. The Region 5 Swim Championships are scheduled for Feb. 14 and Feb. 15.
