Somerset — The Somerset High School boys golf team opened the 2013 season with a big win in the Dale Hollow Invitational on Friday.  The Briar Jumper linksters downed 23 other high school teams, that competed at the Dale Hollow Lake State Resort Park.

Somerset found themselves in a tie for first place, with individual scores from Ross Perry 72, Zach Whitis and Chandler Purcell both 77, and Konner Cowan 79.

Perry was also tied for first place individual honors, and returned to the course for a playoff hole.  Since Perry was occupied, the team tie-breaker was determined by the scorecard of the fifth man.  For Somerset, Cam Claunch was that tie-breaker with a score of 89.

Perry’s even-par round earned second place honors after the playoff hole on 18.

Returning coaches Davin Roberts and Scott Whitis are excited about this season, especially after the strong season opener win.
