Southwestern falls to Colts 58-55

Somerset —

In the third round of the Lake Cumberland Holiday Hoops Classic, the Warriors face the Colts from West Jessamine, falling short by three, 58-55. Southwestern led the game all the way until two minutes left in the fourth quarter.
“We played pretty darn good for about three quarters then we seemed to let up when we got a bigger lead,” Warriors head coach Steve Wright stated. “We did not continue to do the same things that got us the lead to begin with.”
The Warriors scored early and were able to have an 11-point lead after the first quarter. Adam Isaacs hit two threes early in the game for Southwestern. Dylan Gaskins did a good job of working down in the post scored four of his eight in the opening period. The Warriors had a double-digit lead after the first period of play, 21-10.
In the second period Southwestern had a balanced score sheet, passing the ball around and taking their time to find the right shot. They worked the defense until they were able to get a layup or could penetrate the lane. The Warriors went into the half with a 10-point lead, 34-24.
After the half, Southwestern came out ready to play but quit rebounding after going up by 15 midway through the period. The Warriors gave up several second- and third-chance opportunities allowing West back in the game. The Colts trailed by five after the third, 47-42.
“We played a little tentative down the stretch, weren’t shooting as well, and kind of quit moving on the defensive end,” said Wright. “They started to build momentum and we let them.”
In the fourth quarter the colts trailed by two for a while but eventually took the lead at 52-51 with just under two minutes remaining. The Warriors passed the ball around looking for a smart shot and Edwards gives them the lead back with 1:30 left in the game. Will Henderson was able to tie the score for the last time at 55 all with 30 seconds left. The Colts got the ball back ad with 1.4 seconds on the clock Henderson hit another three to give West the lead. The Warriors had a chance but Robbie Miller’s shot was off. West Jessamine won 58-55.
