SHS gets 4-2 win over Clay County on Monday

Somerset —

In a pinch-hit situation in the sixth inning, Cody Carrender got on base with a single. Carrender would eventually score in the frame to put Somerset ahead by a 4-2 margin.
On the mound, Z. Dishman earned the victory for Somerset. The Jumper sophomore gave up five hits on two runs and had one strikeout in the victory.
Rutherford, who earned the save for Somerset, gave up a lone hit and had three strikeouts in three innings of work. Combs struck out two of the three batters that he faced in the seventh inning.
Somerset was led in hitting by the trio of Pelston, C. Dishman, and Bryson Jones, who all finished with three hits on the night. Carrender, Stephens, Logan Ramsey, and Will Hislope also had hits in the win over the Tigers.
The Jumpers have a lot of different players who can come into the game and make an impact. For the Somerset skipper, it’s a tough job to find the perfect starting line-up.
“We feel like we have 16 to 18 kids battling for nine spots,” said Grundy. “I know it upsets parents, but right now there is just too much talent in this program not to – I feel like having too much talent is a good thing. Until we get the right mixture, we are going are going to keep rotating guys in and out.”
Grundy and company were scheduled to host Russell County last night, but that game was called off due to weather. Somerset’s next outing will now be Friday evening, when they will travel to Harrodsburg to face three-time defending 12th Region champion Mercer County.
