PCHS falls to duPont Manual Friday, 6-3

Somerset —

An evening after downing Lincoln by a score of 2-0, the Pulaski County Maroons returned to action in a late-night match-up with duPont Manual at PC Field.
The homestanding Maroons two-game winning streak came to a halt, as the visiting Crimsons from duPont Manual defeated Danny Masten’s ball club, 6-3.
Thanks to arm of Manual senior pitcher Aaron Pearcey, the Crimsons would make their long trip to Somerset worthwhile, taking down the Maroons by three runs. Pearcey, who went 6 2/3 innings, finished with ten strikeouts in the winning effort.
Masten attributed his team’s performance to the arm of Pearcey and a bit of sloppiness.
“We looked really sloppy,” began Masten. “We didn’t make enough plays. We had some good at-bats, but (Pearcey) mowed us down all-game long. That’s as quality of a pitcher right there that we’ll see all year. He did his job and got us out. We manufactured some runs, but other than that, we couldn’t do anything.”
The Maroons took the lead first in this one, as senior Taylor Gover would give his team a 1-0 lead after scoring on an RBI double from fellow senior teammate Eric Jones.
Manual would respond with three consecutive runs, scoring two in the top of the second inning and one in the third frame to grab a 3-1 advantage over Pulaski. The Maroons answered with one run in the bottom of the third, as Gover scored on a fielder’s choice from junior Aaron Smith, which cut the Crimson lead to one at 3-2.
The Crimsons would break the game open in the sixth frame, when they tallied a trio of runs on two hits to grab a 6-2 advantage. Pulaski would get one run in the bottom of seventh frame, as Kyle Payton scored on a single from Jones, making the score, 6-3, in favor of Manual.
