#2 Pulaski pounds South Laurel, 39-0

London — For the fourth time in the past five years, the district championship runs through the Pulaski County Maroons.

Johnny Hines and company overcame a lethargic start last night at South Laurel, scoring 26 points after the intermission, blowing open a relatively close game at halftime to down the Cardinals by a 39-0 margin.

The Maroons got off to a slow start last night, fumbling the ball away on their first two possessions.

However, after a scoreless first period, Hines and crew got going.

Aaron Smith scored on a 38-yard touchdown run and Jesse Whitaker had a 7-yard TD scamper, giving PC a 13-0 lead at the intermission.

In the second half, Pulaski County looked more like, well Pulaski County.

Quarterback Riley Hall threw touchdown passes to George Gregory and Travis Bechard, while Caleb Cox scored on the first play from scrimmage for the Maroons in the third period on a 68-yard TD run, and Zach Whiles added a 30-yard scoring run, helping PC move to 9-0 overall on the season and to 4-0 against district opponents.

PC was guilty of three fumbles in the game, but the Maroons racked up 491 yards of total offense, thanks to a big second half, rolling to the win and to a fourth district title in the past five seasons.
