Belfry uses 2nd half to down Jumpers, 37-12

Belfry — Somerset High School led #2 Belfry 12-7 early in the second quarter and only trailed the Pirates 14-12 at the half, but the game quickly unraveled for the Briar Jumpers in the second half as Belfry rolled to a 36-12 win.

Somerset freshman Jordan Doan scored on a 61-yard TD run midway in the first quarter. Then early in the second quarter, Castle Hatcher threw a 16-yard touchdown strike to Doan to put the Briar Jumpers up 12-7. The Pirates scored with 5:29 left in the second quater to regain the lead at 14-12.

In the third quarter, the Jumpers were nailed for a safety and Belfry scored on the pursuing offensive possession to take a 23-12 later in the period.

Belfry scored back-to-back touchdowns early in the fourth quarter to expand their lead to 37-12.

Doan rushed for 117 yards on 13 carries and was named as the offensive MVP of the game. Belfry had 389 total offensive yardage to Somerset’s 193.
