Jimmy Voight named Pulaski basketball coach

New Maroon coach brings 31 years of experince at college and high school levels

Somerset — Exactly five weeks after Pulaski County head boy’s basketball coach Al Gover resigned his position, the Maroons have a new leader of the basketball program.

And he’s a coaching legend, having success at every stop along his impressive coaching journey.

On Friday evening, former Russell County and Casey County player Jimmy Voight was offered and accepted the job to become Pulaski County’s new head basketball coach.

And in Voight, Pulaski County will be getting a coach that brings a ton of experience and a plethora of success on the hardwood to the PC program.

Voight has 31 years experience as a basketball coach, with 15 of those years spent as a head collegiate coach at the Division II and JUCO levels.

Voight has also spent 11 years as a head coach at the high school level, coaching teams in Kentucky, Oklahoma, and New Mexico.

Voight also spent one season as the Associate Head Coach at the University of Louisiana Monroe — a Division I school in the Sun Belt Conference, so he brings plenty of experience to the Pulaski County program.

So why did a coach with a total of 443 wins during a storied career, with a lot of that success coming inside the collegiate ranks want to return to high school hoops?

Voight says that one was an easy decision to make — he simply wanted to come back home, and the opening at Pulaski County High School gave him that opportunity.

“Kentucky’s home for me, and I’ve spent a lot of time in this area,” stated a very happy and excited coach Voight.

“My dad coached at both Russell County and at Casey County, and I played at both of those schools, so I am very famiiar with the 12th Region and this area,” added the new PC coach. “I also knew that Pulaski County is one of the better jobs in the 12th Region, and at times, it’s been one of the top jobs in the state of Kentucky.”

Look for full details of Voight’s hiring at Pulaski County High School in Tuesday’s edition.
