Cheuvront, Blevins shine at Eastern Relays

Louisville — At this weekend’s prestigious Eastern Relays, Somerset High School junior Cam Cheuvront almost won his race and Pulaski County High School junior Mason Blevins turned in a National Elite performance and broke a longtime school record.

In, perhaps, the biggest high school track meet in the southeastern portion of the United States, two local athletes turned in stellar performances.

Cheuvront finished fourth in a star-studded 100-meter dash field, that was led by Louisville Trinity’s James Quick Cheuvront covered the 100 meters in 11.16 seconds, just inches behind Quick’s winning time of 10.98.

Blevins pulled off another impressive distance double in the 1600 meters and 3200 meters.

Blevins placed 21st in a ‘Who’s Who of prep distance runners’ 3200-meter race, but more importantly turned in a time of 9:33.45, which qualified as a National Elite mark. Blevins also, broke a long-standing school record, which was held by former state champion David Altmaier - who set the mark in 2000.

Blevins also finished 40th in the mile run with a clocking of 4:35.17. The top five runners in the mile were clocked at 4:10 or better.

Pulaski junior Kaleb Rowe placed seventh in the triple jump with a best of 43’04.75”. Rowe also placed 24th in the long jump with a best leap of 19’00.5”

Somerset junior Will Lange placed ninth in the 200 meters with a time of 23.08.

The Pulaski distance medley relay team of  Jimmy Goldson, Kaleb Rowe, Austin Hyden and Matthew Crawford        finished fifth overall.

Pulaski junior Austin Hyden placed 12th in the high jump with a best of 5’10”.

Pulaski eighth-grader Alyssa Hyden placed 18th in th e800-meter run with a 2:27.73 clocking.

Somerset sophomore Maranda Mills placed 18th in the long jump with a leap of 15’05”.

Peyton Ingram won the open 3200-meter run with a 12:36.6 clocking.

Other local standouts were Pulaski Alec Wooldridge - 100 meters 11.57 and 400 meters 53.15, Pulaski Josh O’Conner - 200 meters 24.32, Pulaski Jimmy Goldson - 800 meters 2:05.53, Pulaski Morgan Stevens -  mile run 4:41.60, Pulaski Jake Hudson - 110 hurdles 17.31 and 300 hurdles 45.41, Pulaski Miquel Rogue - 2000 steeplechase 8:15.7 and Somerset Ensley Peters - shot put 42’.

Local track teams will compete in the Pulaski Invitational on Saturday, May 4.
