Briar Jumpers pummel Letcher Co. Central, 42-7

Whitesburg — The Somerset High School Briar Jumpers dominated on their very first offensive play and never let up in a dominating 42-7 win over Letcher County Central on Friday night.

In the Jumpers’ first offensive series, Jumpers’ quarterback Castle Hatcher connected with senior wide out Cam Cheuvront for a 90-yard touchdown pass play.

On defense, Hatcher scored on a ‘Pick 6’ after he returned an interception 19 yards for the score to put the Jumpers up 14-0 with 4:33 left in the first quarter.

Midway through the second quarter, Hatcher connected with Jordan Doan for a 74-yard touchdown strike.

Then, Hatcher connected with Cheuvront again for a 42-yard TD pass play to up the Jumpers’ lead to 28-0 at the half.

In the third quarter, Doan ran the ball into the end zone from 20 yards out to give the Jumpers a 35-0 lead.

Early in the fourth quarter, senior Devin Griffith got in on the scoring action with a 5-yard TD run. Alex Franklin successfulyl nailed his sixth kicking PAT to put Somerset up 42-0.

The Cougars scored a meaningless TD midway through the final quarter to put the final at 42-7.

Sophomore QB Hatcher put up some monster numbers with 3 passing TDs and one defensive TD. Hatcher threw 8-of-15 for 254 yards. Cheuvront caught 6 passes for 174 yards and scored a pair of TDs. Doan had 11 carries for 120 yards and scored a touchdown. Doan caught a touchdown pass for 74 yards.
