Southwestern gets first win, 51-0

Somerset — Southwestern avoided their worst start in school history after coming away with a 51-0 victory over South Laurel last night at the Reservation.

The Warrior offense rolled up 416 total yards on the night, with 293 rushing yards and 123 passing yards. Southwestern scored on all eight possessions in the victory over the Cardinals.

Southwestern’s defense had a big night as well, holding the Cardinals to 22 total yards. The Warrior defense forced the Cardinals into three turnovers – two fumbles and one interception.

Brandon Pruitt and Devon Baker hooked up for a 14-yard touchdown pass halfway through the opening quarter to grab a 7-0 lead. A 61-yard touchdown run from Skylar Stigall and a seven-yard run from Logan Campisano would widen the gap to 19-0, which would be the score after one quarter.

The Warriors scored four times in the second period, allowing them to grab a 44-0 halftime lead. Pruitt and Baker found each other for a 68-yard touchdown pass to jump out by 26 points.

A 63-yard touchdown run from Stigall put Southwestern ahead by 32 points. Campisano added two more touchdown runs (22 yards and 20 yards) before the intermission.

David “D-1 Dave” Young scored the Warriors’ final touchdown of the night with 6:20 left to play in the game. Young’s score allowed the Warriors to take a 51-0 lead, which would be the final score.

Pruitt, through the air, went a perfect 5 for 5 for 123 yards and two touchdowns.

On the ground, Campisano ran the ball for 78 yards and three scores on nine carries. Stigall chimed in with 139 yards and two touchdowns on five attempts.
