Southwestern losses a heartbreaker to Pats

Stanford — Heartbreak has been an on-going theme for the Southwestern football team this season. And the biggest heartbreak of all came in a 21-20 last-second loss to Lincoln County High School at Death Valley.

With no time left on the clock Lincoln’s Marvin Robison dived into the end zone to tie the score at 20-20, and then Patriots kicker Boone Baird nailed the PAT to put the final dagger in the Warriors’ heart.

Not only did the setback put the Warriors to 1-8 on the season, but it eliminated Southwestern from the post-season playoffs.

With 9:19 left in the game, the Warriors had a commanding 20-7 lead after Skylar Stigall scored on a 10-yard run.

However, Lincoln’s Dakota Godbey hit Trevor Gaines for a 27-yard TD pass with 6:42 left in the game and Southwestern had to punt the ball away on their final offensive possession with 4:24 left in the game. Unfortunately, the Patriots drove the ball 92 yards for their final game-winning score.

Penalties played a big part in the game as Southwestern was flagged 15 times for 115 yards, while Lincoln County only had 7 yellow flags for 55 yards.

For the Warriors, senior running back Logan Campisano had another huge night with two rushing touchdowns (12 yards and 87 yards). Campisano rushed 239 yards on 25 carries on the night, and he surpassed the 1,000-yard mark for the season.

Skylar Stigall rushed 11 times for 61 yards and scored the Warriors other touchdown.

Lincoln County QB Dakota Godbey threw 16-of-26 for 191 yards.
