Pulaski Co. pummels Briar Jumpers, 41-13

Somerset — The Pulaski County Maroons rolled up over 400 yards of total offense last night in the Ray Correll Bowl, helping Johnny Hines and crew snap a two-game losing streak to arch-rival Somerset, as the Maroons steamrolled over the Briar Jumpers by a final score of 41-13.

Junior running back Caleb Cox, coming off of reconstructive knee surgery that cut his season short last season, got the blowout underway early on, scoring the first of his two touchdowns on the night last in the first quarter on a 9-yard run.

Cox scored one more rushing TD on the night, as he ran for a game-high 143 yards on 19 carries.

Aaron Smith also got in on the act by scoring three rushing TD’s, on a night that saw Pulaski County race out to a 27-0 advantage midway through the third quarter before Somerset ever scratched the scoreboard.

Quarterback Castle Hatcher threw a pair of touchdowns to Cam Cheuvront, but it was much too little, much too late.

Freshman Jake Johnson also got in on the act for the Maroons, as the youngster took his first ever carry in his varsity career 14 yards for another score.

Thanks to his big night, Cox was named the Offensive MVP, while his teammate Mason Helton was named as the game’s Defensive MVP.
