Top-ranked Belfry nips Warriors, 38-27

Somerset — Thanks to a pair of fourth quarter touchdowns, Belfry was able to get past Southwestern last night at the Reservation by a final score of 38-27.

Heading into the fourth quarter, the homestanding Warriors held a 27-24 lead over the visiting Pirates. The score would quickly change, as Philip Haywood's team scored two touchdowns over the course of the final quarter to move to a perfect 3-0 on the year. Southwestern, with the loss, fell to 0-4 on the year.

Before the opening period ended, Warrior senior Skylar Stigall ran in from two yards out for a touchdown. Lucas Turpin's extra point cut the Pirate lead to 10-7.

Both teams scored a pair of touchdowns in the second quarter. Both of the Warriors' touchdowns came from Stigall, who scoring runs of 8 yards and 24 yards. At the break, Belfry held a four-point, 24-20 lead over Southwestern.

Stigall and the Warriors had the only score of the third quarter, as the senior had a 65-yard touchdown run. Turpin's made kick gave the Warriors a 27-24 lead over Belfry.

On offense, Southwestern 335 total yards of offense, with 308 yards coming on the ground and 27 yards through the air. Belfry finished with 372 rushing yards and 70 passing yards for a combined 442 yards of total offense.

Stigall scored all for the Warriors' touchdowns on the night. Stigall finished with 108 yards and four scores on nine carries.
