Pulaski wins first district since 2006

Liberty — Pulaski County High School downed Casey County High School for the 47th District title last night, by a score of  3-0 (25-19,25-22,25-18). The win marked the first district title for the Lady Maroons’ program since 2006.

“It feels awesome winning district,” stated head coach Teresa Combs. “This was one of the first goals that we set this season as a team.”

In the first set, Casey County started out the game with the lead. Pulaski was able to tie at 4-4. The Lady Maroons were not able to get the lead until 9-8 with a kill from CeCe Roberts.

The Lady Rebels took the lead back at 12-11 after a net violation was called on Pulaski. The Lady Maroons ended the set with an 8-1 run. The run included an ace from Jessica Ping, a kill from Sarah Correll, and block from Correll. The final score for the first set was 25-19.

In the second set, Pulaski held the lead for most of the set. The Lady Maroons started off the set with a kill from Samantha Randolph, a kill by Correll and an ace from Bryanna Black.

Casey County was able to tie Pulaski at 15-15 and take the lead at 16-15, thanks to a 6-1 run. The Lady Maroons got the lead back at 19-18 and kept it for the rest of the set. The final score to the second set was 25-22.

In third set, the Lady Rebels jumped out 3-0 on Pulaski. The Lady Maroons answered back with 8-1 run forcing Casey County to call a timeout. The run included two kills from Randolph, a kill from Correll, and an ace from Ping.

Once the Lady Maroons got the lead, they held on to it. Randolph had several kills towards the end of this set. Pulaski ended the set with a block and two kills from Correll. The score to the last set was 25-18.

Leading the team with kills was Randolph with 17, following her was Correll with 14, Ping had six. Black led the Lady Maroons in assist with 22, Randolph had 11, and Roberts had eight.

Ping lead the way for Pulaski with aces getting five, Randolph had three, Black had two, and Roberts and Correll had one each.

Correll lead the team with 4 blocks, Lyons had three, and Randolph had one.

There were four local girls selected for the 47th District All -Tournament team. The three from Pulaski were Samantha Randolph, Sarah Correll, Bryanna Black. From Somerset was Kaitlyn Moore.

The Lady Maroons will advance to play in the 12th Region Tournament next week at Mercer County High School.
