Wreck on Ky. 90 kills Adair County man

Burnside —

An Adair County man was killed Friday morning as the result of a fatal traffic accident in Burnside.
According to the Burnside Police Department, Bryan D. Hodge, 23, of Columbia, Ky., was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident, which occurred right around 6 a.m. on Ky. 90 near the intersection with Cliffside Drive.
The investigation at the scene revealed that Hodge was driving a 2000 Mitsubishi Eclipse eastbound on Ky. 90 when he lost control of his vehicle, crossing the center line into the westbound lane. That’s when his vehicle collided with 2000 Mercury Cougar, operated by Claraissa Hicks, 48, of Monticello, Ky., according to Burnside Police.
Hicks was treated at the scene and transported to Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital by Somerset-Pulaski County EMS. She was later airlifted by Air Methods to the University of Kentucky Medical Center. She was listed as being in critical condition as of Friday afternoon.
Hodge was treated at the scene by EMS, but succumbed to injuries sustained in the collision and was transported by the Pulaski County Coroner’s Office, according to the police report.
Coroner Chuck Godbey said the cause of death was blunt force trauma.
Burnside Police Chief Craig Whitaker said that there was no reason initially to suspect alcohol or drug impairment as a factor in the crash, but investigators are waiting for the results of toxicology reports before anything can be officially ruled out.
Units were assisted at the scene by the Burnside Volunteer Fire Department, Somerset-Pulaski EMS, the Bronston Volunteer Fire Department, Pulaski County Rescue Squad, Air Methods, the University of Kentucky Police Department, and the Pulaski County Coroner’s Office.
The investigation is continuing by the Burnside Police Department and the Pulaski County Coroner’s Office.
