Motorcycle wreck on Ky. 914

Somerset — At 6:25 a.m. this morning, Somerset Police received a call of an injury collision on the southeastern section of Ky. 914 Bypass, near Weddle Lane.

When units arrived, they discovered 59-year-old Darrell J. Baker, of Nancy, was operating a 2007 Kawasaki motorcycle westbound on Ky. 914 when a deer ran into his path. Baker’s motorcycle struck the deer, and then overturned several times. Baker was ejected from the motorcycle and was not wearing a helmet at the time of the collision.

Baker was treated by the Somerset-Pulaski County EMS and was airlifted from the scene to the University of Kentucky Hospital by AirMethods.

The Somerset Police Collision Reconstruction Unit was called to the scene and the roadway is expected to open by 10 a.m.

Somerset police units were assisted at the scene by the Somerset Fire Department and the Parkers Mill Fire Department.

There has been some inaccurate information released that this is a fatal collision. As of 9 a.m., Mr. Baker is still being treated at the UK Hospital. The Somerset Police Department is the investigating agency and will post any relevant updates to this investigation.
