Photo display is fitting remembrance of accident victim

Somerset —

“It’s almost like an angel sitting on our shoulder.”
That’s how Caroline Epperson described the framed photographs of Megan Williams that hang on a wall in The Square, the downtown Somerset eatery and bar.
Underneath the photos is the table where manager Epperson and new owners Regina and Gary Harness frequently do daily paperwork for the business. Williams was a close friend to them all, and the trio likes having her face looking over them as they try to help grow a business that Williams had a big part in, even posthumously.
Williams passed away early March 12 in a fatal car accident, when she crashed into a tractor trailer that was stuck in a ditch along Ky. 39. It was a freak accident that could have happened to anyone — but on that morning, it happened to Williams, a mother of three and server at the restaurant and night spot that formerly occupied the old Goldenberg Furniture store, Beach Buckets.
That business closed shortly before the accident, in early February. Before that point, however, Williams already had her eye on who should buy the place and start anew.
“When we were getting ready to start thinking about how we were going to re-open, Megan was with Gary and Regina a lot more than I was,” said Epperson. “I think it was more her idea to have them. She’d say, ‘Oh, I really want to be with them. I think they’d be great owners.’
“Megan would come to me every week, (saying,) ‘We’ve got to go with Gary and Regina,’” added Epperson.
Williams had made close friends with the soon-to-be owners of The Square through her work at the former restaurant in that spot.
“She was our waitress every time we came in here,” said Regina Harness. “We just became really good friends. She’d hang out with us. We just did everything together.”
