Duo charged with rolling meth lab arrested

Somerset —

Two suspects have been arrested by the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Department following a traffic stop for allegedly operating a rolling meth lab
Lara Baird, 56, of Grand Central Boulevard, Somerset, and Steven Brans, 42, of Mill Springs Road, Nancy, were both charged with multiple drug-related offenses.
According to the sheriff’s office, Deputy Dan Pevley was conducting a routine patrol on Monday night when he encountered a vehicle operating with only a single working headlight on Ky. 3091 in northern Pulaski County. 
Pevley conducted a traffic stop of the vehicle and allegedly detected a strong chemical odor coming from inside of the vehicle. Pevley recognized the odor as one commonly associated with the manufacturing of methamphetamine and removed to occupants from the vehicle to conduct interviews, according to the sheriff’s office.
The suspects admitted to having an active methamphetamine lab inside of the vehicle, and a search uncovered numerous items commonly associated with meth-making, according to the sheriff’s department, including an hydrogen chloride generator. Also allegedly located inside the vehicle was a baggie containing a clear liquid with a white powder, which was revealed by a positive test to be methamphetamine, according to the sheriff’s report.
Baird was charged with manufacturing methamphetamine, first offense, first-degree possession of a controlled substance, a first offense, and having one headlight, while Brans was charged with manufacturing methamphetamine, a first offense, and first-degree possession of a controlled substance, first offense.
Pevley was assisted ont he scene by Deputy Travis Thompson, Deputy Daryl Kegley, and Sgt. Scott Trotter.
Both suspects were lodged in the Pulaski County Detention Center.
