Garbage truck tossed on its side

Emergency officials were called to Spanns Lane in the Bend of the Lakes area Wednesday afternoon after this 2009 International garbage truck, registered to Waste Connections, overturned on its side after it left the roadway, clipped a telephone pole and hit a tree. The driver, Howard “Sherman” Carpenter III, 41, of Bronston, had to be freed from the truck by emergency workers. Carpenter was flown to UK Medical Center by PHI. A passenger in the truck, James E. Graham, Jr., 41, of Somerset, wasn’t injured. The Pulaski County Rescue Squad, Ferguson Volunteer Fire Department, Pulaski County Sheriff’s Department, and Somerset-Pulaski County EMS responded to the accident.
