Building inspector arrested for DUI

Somerset —

A City of Somerset building inspector was arrested early Sunday on charges of driving under the influence.
According to the citation signed by Somerset Police Detective Chris Gates, Wesley Finley, 35, of Larkin Lane, Somerset, was charged with DUI with a blood alcohol level of more than .08, a first offense.
Finley is employed as a building inspector for the City of Somerset.
According to the citation, Somerset Police Officer William Greer pulled Finley over on June 1 at 12:24 a.m. for speeding, going 55 in a 35 mile per hour zone. Finley was reported as being on North U.S. 27 near stoplight no. 5 at the time, driving a 2002 Chevrolet.
Greer reported that the suspect smelled strongly of an alcoholic beverage, and Finley said that he had been drinking approximately 12 beers throughout the day, with his last drink an hour before the traffic stop, according to the citation.
Finley was given various sobriety tests and was determined to be showing a “strong presence of alcohol,” as stated in the citation.
The citation lists Gates with a “TAP” assignment, representing the Traffic Alcohol Program. Gates was on overtime provided by the federal government specifically for DUI enforcement.
Finley has since been released from the Pulaski County Detention Center.
Mayor Eddie Girdler said that hadn’t seen any reports or evaluations on the alleged incident as of Tuesday, and thus had no comment on the matter or on any potential disciplinary action.
