Child Hit by Vehicle

Somerset —

Emergency workers were called to a residence on Scenic Vista Drive, located off Boat Dock Road, at around 5:27 p.m. Wednesday after an approximately 5-year-old boy was struck by a vehicle.

According to the Pulaski County Sheriff's Department,Justin Puckett, 26, of Maple Grove Drive, Somerset, was operating a 2000 Jeep northbound on Scenic Vista Drive when he struck the juvenile who apparently ran into his pass while attempting to cross the street and board a Beacon Hill Church bus.

After the initial collision with the child, the Puckett vehicle then struck the bus, operated by Linda Stronger, 68, of Barnesburg Road, Somerset, according to the sheriff's office.

The juvenile was treated at the scene by Somerset EMS and airlifted to the University of Kentucky Medical Center by PHI Inc.

A Somerset-Pulaski County ambulance, with EMS workers treating the child inside, is shown at the Waddle Station of the Parkers Mill Volunteer Fire Department awaiting the boy’s transfer to a helicopter for a flight to the University of Kentucky Medical Center.

The sheriff's office was assisted at the scene by the Parkers Mill Fire Department.

The houseboat designation made national news. A story and photographs about Kentucky’s houseboat industry and Somerset being the birthplace of houseboat construction were published online March 27 by Houseboat Magazine, a Harris Publishing Store publication based in Idaho Falls, ID. Houseboat Magazine will host National Houseboat Expo 2014 June 6-8 at State Dock Marina on Lake Cumberland.
