Somerset High Super Fan injured in Lincoln crash

Somerset — A Somerset woman was seriously injured in a car accident this week.

Anne Compton, 68, was listed in serious condition as of 12 p.m. Friday at the University of Kentucky Medical Center, according to a spokesperson there.

According to published reports, the single-vehicle accident happened shortly before 12 p.m. Thursday on U.S. 27 in Lincoln County.

Compton was driving an SUV southbound on U.S. 27 when the car reportedly dropped off the right shoulder of the road. Compton overcorrected and crossed into the other lane. The vehicle rolled several times before coming to a rest.

Compton was thrown from the vehicle and her passenger, Teresa Delong, was extricated from the vehicle.

Both women were flown from the scene of the accident to the UK Medical Center.

Compton was initially listed in critical condition before she was upgraded to serious. Delong has been discharged from the hospital.

Compton is well-known in Somerset, especially among followers of the Somerset Briar Jumper Football Team.

Compton was this year inducted into the Somerset High School Hall of Fame for her many years of dedication to the football team as a booster. Compton is well known for her contributions to the program, including fundraising, cooking, and operating the concessions stand, the game clock, and scoreboard.
