Two-car crash on North U.S. 27 claims Glasgow woman

Somerset —

One woman was killed and three others injured in a two-vehicle accident that occurred Saturday morning north of Somerset.
Emergency responders received a report of a collision at the intersection of N. U.S. 27 and Stillwater Road, located just north of Somerset at the Cumberland Parkway overpass at around 10:15 a.m. Saturday.
According to the Somerset Police Department, which is investigating the accident, the collision occurred when an eastbound 2001 Ford Focus, driven by Larhonda Tackett, 37, of Vincent, Ky., pulled onto U.S. 27 from Stillwater Road and into the path of a 1993 White Jeep Cherokee.
The Cherokee was southbound on U.S. 27 and was being driven by Lacey Denney, 26, of Waynesburg, Ky.
Somerset-Pulaski County EMS treated Tackett and Denney at the scene of the accident and transported them to Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital.
Tackett’s vehicle was also carrying two passengers when the collision occurred. Rita Hudson, 37, of Tyner, Ky., and Mary Wells, 58, of Glasgow, Ky., were also treated on the scene after they were extricated from the vehicle.
Hudson was transported by Somerset-Pulaski County EMS to LCRH.
Wells was airlifted from the scene by Air Methods and transported to the University of Kentucky Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead by the Fayette County Coroner’s Office.
All occupants were wearing seat belts at the time of the collision, according to SPD Lt. Shannon Smith.
Smith said traffic was rerouted off N. U.S. 27 for almost two hours Saturday while investigators worked to reconstruct the scene.
The investigation is being conducted by the Somerset Police Department Accident Reconstruction Unit.
The Somerset Fire Department also responded to the accident.
