A woman was killed Tuesday evening following a two-vehicle collision on Ky. 39.
The accident occurred at approximately 8 p.m., near the intersection with Campground Road.
According to Somerset Police, the woman was driving a Ford car south on Ky. 39 when she apparently lost control in a curve. As a result, the driver overcorrected and ran head-on into a northbound van.
Witnesses at the scene said that the van tried to avoid the collision but ended up “t-boning” the driver’s side of the Ford.
The driver of the Ford was apparently killed upon impact. Two other passengers in the vehicle — as well as two individuals in the van, the driver and a passenger — were all flown to the University of Kentucky Medical Center for treatment of injuries.
Roads were slick at the time following rainy conditions Monday evening, but police did not say by presstime whether or not that was a contributing factor to the wreck.
None of the identities of the victims were provided by authorities by presstime.
Ky. 39 was shut down for several hours while the Somerset Police accident reconstruction team investigated the scene.
