Somerset —

Police arrested two Lincoln County men this weekend after an officer allegedly caught them red-handed during a burglary attempt.
The Somerset Police Department responded Sunday at around 8 a.m. to Hart’s Motorsports, located at South U.S. 27, after the business’ burglar alarm activated.
SPD Officer Elgin Pettus arrived on the scene “within one minute” and allegedly discovered Ricky Robbins, 44, and Dakota Means, 21 attempting to steal a motorcycle from inside the store, according to a press release from SPD.
“He (Pettus) was pretty close to the scene when the call got dispatched out,” said Lt. Shannon Smith, with SPD. “It’s something we wish we could do more often, but different factors play out in responding to calls.”
Both men are from Stanford.
The two suspects were arrested without incident and charged with third-degree burglary, first-degree criminal mischief, and criminal attempt to commit theft by unlawful taking over $500, according to SPD.
Both men were lodged in the Pulaski County Detention Center.
“One advantage we had in this was Officer Pettus was so close,” Smith said.
The investigation into the alleged burglary is continuing.
