Man killed in wreck on Ky. 70

Single-vehicle accident took place Tuesday night in northern Pulaski

Somerset —

A man was killed in a one-vehicle crash in northern Pulaski County.
Rubin Coffey, 36, of Tennessee was pronounced dead Tuesday evening at the scene of the accident on East Ky. 70 between Buck Creek and Woodstock.
According to information provided by the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Department, Coffey was driving a box truck on East Ky. 70 at around 7:30 p.m. Tuesday when the passenger tires of the vehicle dropped off the shuolder of the road.
“It appears a tire dropped off the roadway, and you can certainly see where he abruptly overcorrected,” said Pulaski County Sheriff Todd Wood.
After Coffey tried to straighten the vehicle, it left the roadway and rolled once before it crashed into a nearby barbed wire fence.
Members of the Pulaski County Rescue Squad worked to extricate Coffey from the truck.
Pulaski County Coroner Chuck Godbey said Coffey died from blunt force trauma injuries and said Coffey was not wearing his seatbelt when the crash occurred.
Wood and Godbey said no evidence was found at the scene of the accident that would point to any alcohol or drug involvement.
“We didn’t see anything at the scene that suggested it,” said Godbey, who noted Coffey is from the Knoxville, Tenn. area.
Along with the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Department, the Pulaski County Coroner’s Office, and the Pulaski County Rescue Squad, the Eubank Volunteer Fire Department and Pulaski County Public Safety Director Tiger Robinson also responded to the accident.
