Mobile home gutted by fire

Somerset —

A mobile home was destroyed and two others sustained minor damage in a fire Monday afternoon that occurred around two miles west of Somerset.
The Somerset Fire Department on Monday was called to Raceway Mobile Home Park, located just over two miles west of Somerset on West Ky. 80, at 3:30 p.m. Once firefighters arrived on the scene, they found a mobile home on Lot 12 completely engulfed in flames, according to Lt. Doug Burns, with the Somerset Fire Department.
Several residents reported to emergency officials that they heard at least one explosion.
Burns said the mobile home, which was unoccupied, had several oxygen tanks inside that exploded in the fire.
“The home was in the process of being torn down,” said Burns.
Burns said the fire caused some minor damage to homes on either side of it.
Burns said there was no electric or gas running to the mobile home that caught fire.
“With these homes, with age comes problems,” said Burns. “Electrical, mechanical, issues like that. But with this home, that wasn’t the case. The home had no electric, and no gas.”
No one was injured in the blaze.
He added that the fire is still under investigation.
“At this point, we haven’t filed any charges,” said Burns. “We’re still gathering information.”
Burns said he’s working with the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Department to determine whether to open a case into the incident.
Firefighters remained at the scene of the fire until around 5 p.m. Monday.
Along with Somerset Fire Department and the sheriff’s department, Somerset-Pulaski County EMS also responded to Monday’s fire.
