Suspect arrested following wreck

Kristy Abney faces DUI, endangerment charges

Somerset —

A Pulaski County woman was arrested after she allegedly caused a car accident while driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs.
Kristy Abney, 37, of Hilltop Drive, Nancy, was arrested by the Somerset Police Department Tuesday evening after a two-vehicle crash occurred at the intersection of Patterson Branch Road and West Ky. 80.
Officers were called out to the scene at around 6:40 p.m. Tuesday. Once there, officers found that Abney’s vehicle had collided with a second car, which was carrying four people, including a pregnant woman.
SPD Capt. Shannon Smith said the pregnant woman was transported to Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital to be checked out.
According to the arrest citation filed by SPD Officer Derek Flynn, Abney told officers she drank alcohol earlier in the evening. Flynn also reported that Abney appeared to have white powder residue in her nostril.
“(Abney) admitted to snorting Hydrocodone earlier in the evening,” Flynn wrote in the citation.
Abney allegedly failed a sobriety test given by officers on the scene, and Flynn reported that she refused a blood and urine test at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital.
“On the way to the E.R., (Abney) advised on her own free will she did not want to take a blood test because there would be ‘stuff’ in there,” Flynn wrote in the arrest citation.
Witnesses at the scene said they saw Abney’s car allegedly traveling above the speed limit on West Ky. 80.
“A witness at the scene advised before the collision occurred (Abney) was driving at a high rate of speed and crossed over the center line,” Flynn wrote in the arrest citation.
Abney was lodged in the Pulaski County Detention Center Tuesday evening and charged with four counts of first-degree wanton endangerment and one count of driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
