Police are searching for those involved in a violent home invasion incident in southern Pulaski County.
The Pulaski County Sheriff’s Department at around 4:30 a.m. Monday responded to a home at 808 Heath Road, Burnside after the residents there reported they had been assaulted.
Two brothers who lived in the home, Jimmy Rowland, 48, and Timothy Wells, 51, sustained significant injuries in the alleged home invasion. Both men were treated at the scene by Somerset-Pulaski County EMS and later transferred to the University of Kentucky Medical Center.
Wells was treated for head injuries and released on Tuesday, according to Lt. Det. Brett Whitaker, with the sheriff’s department. Whit-aker also stated that Wells sustained cuts to the hands as well. Rowland remains at UK and is being treated for “more severe head injuries” and two broken arms, according to Whitaker.
Whitaker said through the press release that investigators discovered Wells and Rowland were both asleep when the assailants entered the home through an unlocked door and “began assaulting the victims with a blunt object.”
Whitaker stated in the press release that the suspects fled the home after the assault and the victims called 911.
“The motive for the assault is believed to be robbery and the victims are missing a small amount of cash,” Whitaker stated in the press release.
When asked whether the victims may have known their assailants, Whitaker declined to comment.
“There are aspects of the investigation that we can't release so as to protect the integrity of the investigation,” Whitaker said through an email to the Commonwealth Journal. “We are looking into all possibilities at this point.”
Whitaker said investigators are working under the assumption that more than one assailant was involved, but he couldn’t say how many suspects may have been involved in the assault.
Investigators are asking that anyone with information on the assault contact the sheriff’s department at 678-5145.
The sheriff’s department’s Criminal Investigation Division is continuing the investigation.
