Margie Dick, of Somerset, passed away Tuesday, May 6, 2008, at her residence. She was 78.
Margie was born in the Frazer Community of Wayne County on May 15, 1929, to the late William Barton and Cloda Wallace Shearer.
She was an employee of General Telephone for 30 years. Ms. Dick was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Somerset. She was director of the church Food Service Committee and a member of the Ladies Circle at the church. Margie was also a member of Young at Heart and Christian Women’s Club. She was chaplain for the Daughters of the American Revolution. Margie volunteered at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital and was a member of the Senior Friends club. She was also a member of the Red Hatters Club.
Ms. Dick was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Oscar Dick; her sister, Ermon Hatfield; and her son-in-law, Marvin Vaught.
Margie is survived by her daughters, Yolanda Vaught and Clorenda (and Walter Dee) Dalton, both of Somerset; two brothers, James Allen Shearer and Elza Shearer, both of Frazer; her four grandchildren, Travis Vaught, of Louisville, Tenn., Rachel (and Jason) Dalton, Aaron Vaught and Chip Dalton, all of Somerset; and her two great-grandchildren, Kyra Azlyn Vaught and Gabriella Elizabeth Dalton.
Funeral services for Ms. Margie Dick will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, May 9 at the First Baptist Church. Rev. Jim Fields will officiate the service. Interment will follow in the Lakeside Memorial Gardens.
The family of Ms. Margie Shearer Dick will receive friends at the church after 5 p.m. Thursday. The church will be open Friday morning for viewing after 9 a.m. until time for funeral services.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Hospice of Lake Cumberland or in the form of Gideon Bibles.
This sweet, Christian lady, who made such an impact on our community, will be greatly missed.
