Dewey Sumpter

Mr. Dewey Sumpter, age 87, of Nancy, Ky., departed this life on Friday, May 9, 2008 at the Somerset Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.
He was born on Oct. 5, 1920 in Nancy, Ky., to the late Arch and Nancy Senith Burton Sumpter. He was a farmer and member of the Delmar Church of the Nazarene, Nancy, Ky. Mr. Sumpter was a United States Army veteran of WWII, receiving a Purple Heart, Bronze Star, and a Good Conduct Medal. He loved and enjoyed his grandchildren.
Mr. Sumpter is survived by his wife, Faye Potts Sumpter, whom he married on Dec. 30, 1943 in Somerset; two sons, Greg (and Jan) Sumpter, of Cincinnati, Ohio and Gary Delno (and Carol) Sumpter of Jackson, Fla.; four daughters, Josephine Straub, of Mansfield, Ohio, Mary Senie (and Tom) Barnd, of Greenville, Ind., Judy (and Joe) Maybrier, of Nancy, Ky. and Rosella Bibb Sumpter, of Cincinnati, Ohio; 13 grandchildren, and 15 great-grandchildren.
Preceding him death were his parents; six brothers, Joseph, Orvil, Leon, Delno, Brent, and Claude Sumpter; and four sisters, Rosetta Pittman, Nellie Fulcher, Hattie Anna Sumpter, and Ethel Sumpter.
Funeral Services will be Tuesday, May 13 at 10 a.m. at the chapel of Lake Cumberland Funeral Home with Bro. Larry Butte officiating.
Burial will follow at the Mill Springs National Cemetery in Nancy, Ky. with military honors being conducted by the American Legion Post no. 38 Honor Guard.
Visitation will be Monday, May 12 after 5 p.m. at Lake Cumberland Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to the Arthritis Foundation or the Gideon Memorial Bible Plan.
