Jack G. Criswell, 78, of South Main Street, Somerset, Ky., passed away Thursday, June 26, 2008, at his home.
Jack was born Nov. 12, 1929, in Burnside, Ky., to the late Joseph Walter and Bertha Brummett Criswell.
In March 1957, he married Mary Coleman at Jeffersonville, Ind., and to this union were born two children, Alan and Jan Criswell.
Jack retired from Vermont-American in Louisville. After retiring, Jack loved visiting with friends and playing cards. He was an avid UK fan and Somerset High School football fan. Jack was a U.S. Army veteran having fought in the Korean War, and he was awarded for valor by receiving the Bronze Star and was awarded the Purple Heart for wounds he received in battle. Jack attained the rank of Sergeant.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents; his only son, Alan Criswell; one brother, William Criswell; and two sisters, Alese Smiley and Inez Criswell.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Coleman Criswell, and a daughter, Jan (and Jim) Leet of Tarpon Springs, Fla. He is also survived by two brothers, Edward Elwood “Chick” (and Judy) Criswell, and Thomas “Tom” (and Myrna) Criswell, all of Somerset.
Funeral services will be held Monday June 30, at 10 a.m. at the chapel of Somerset Undertaking & Crematory.
Rev. Gilbert Robinson will officiate.
Interment will follow in the Somerset Cemetery.
Military honors will be conducted by the American Legion Post #38.
Jack’s family will receive friends today, June 29, after 6 p.m. at the funeral home.
