— Ruth Ellen Haynes Colyer, 49, Somerset, entered into rest on Sunday, July 20, 2008, at her home after a courageous struggle with cancer.
The youngest of five children, she was born on Feb. 9, 1959, to Bertha Meece Haynes Johnson and the late Lester Lee Haynes. She was a sales associate for the Roses Department Store and Big K and a loving mother and grandmother. She was a member of High Street Baptist Church for the past 14 years where she helped with the nursery and children's Sunday School classes. She was also a member of the Night-N-Pals Homemakers Club and was president of the club for over 20 years.
As a child, Ruth attended Cedar Grove Baptist Church, where she trusted Jesus Christ for salvation and began her walk in the Christian faith. As an adult, Ruth had a sense of humor and a gift with children. She loved to laugh and play tricks on people. She was a favorite aunt to most of her nieces and nephews and was blessed to have a very close family.
Mrs. Colyer is survived by her mother, Bertha Meece Haynes Johnson, Somerset, Ky.; husband, Roger Colyer, whom she married on July 3, 1976, at Cedar Grove Baptist Church; a daughter, Teya (and Greg) Dungan, Somerset; two brothers, Donald (and Brenda) Haynes, Ferguson, Ky., and Clarence "Pup" (and Peggy) Haynes, Somerset; a sister, Shirley (and Wayne) Wilson, Science Hill, Ky.; a grandchild, Daylan Dungan; and a sister-in-law, Matria Haynes.
Preceding her in death was her father, Lester Lee Haynes; and her brother, Lester Lee Haynes Jr.
Visitation for Mrs. Colyer will be at Lake Cumberland Funeral Home after 6 p.m. today.
A funeral service will be at the chapel of Lake Cumberland Funeral Home on Wednesday, July 23 at 10 a.m. with Bro. Greg Haynes, Bro. Greg Dungan, and Bro. Ed Admundson officiating.
Burial will follow in the Colyer Cemetery.
Pallbearers for Mrs. Colyer will be Eddie Haynes, D.J. Haynes, Ralph "Bud" Hall, Randy Haynes, Jon McKinney and Jimmy Phelps.
In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be sent to Hospice of Lake Cumberland, Hope Lodge of Lexington, or High Street Baptist Church Building Fund.
