James William Biers, Jr. of Encinitas, Calif. passed away July 7, 2008 after a brief illness. He was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, but grew up in Somerset and graduated from Somerset High School in 1936. He was retail store manager until his retirement in 1978.
He is survived by his sons; James W. Biers III, of Encinitas and Michael R. Biers, of Woodland Hills, Calif.; a sister, Violet Biers Hart, of Somerset; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was a gentle and kind person, loved by all who knew him and he will be sorely missed by his family and friends.
James was preceded in death by his daughter, Linda Bourne; his wife, Avis Biers who was his soul mate and wife of 65 years; his parents, James W. Biers Sr. and Ethel Vaught Biers; his brothers, Joe, Herbert and Hal; and his sister Hazel Biers Wilson.
A private graveside service was held at LaVista Memorial Park on July 11, 2008
James was a devoted member of the Calvary Baptist Church of Linda Vista for over 47 years and a man of deep and abiding faith. A memorial service was held for James on July 17, 2008 at 11 a.m. at Calvary Baptist Church, 6866 Linda Vista Road, San Diego, Calif.
