Joseph Buckner Russell of Somerset, Ky., passed away Friday, Oct. 23, 2009, at his residence at the age of 79.
He was born Dec. 30, 1929, in Pulaski County, Ky., to the late Thomas Blair and Mary Louetta Wilson Russell.
Joseph served in the United States Army. He was a retired sawmill operator and farmer, he enjoyed woodworking, gardening, listening to gospel music, and, most of all, he loved spending time with his family. Joseph was of the Baptist faith.
He is survived by his two sons, Bobby Joe (and Hazel) Russell of Somerset and Gary D. (and Kelly) Russell of Nancy, Ky.; two daughters, Shirleen Daulton of Somerset and Christine (and Mike) Walters of Stearns, Ky.; seven grandchildren, Bobby Walters, Crystal Stephens, Barry Weddle, Amanda Henderson, Brandon Daulton, Matthew Russell and Sarah Russell; and eight great grandchildren, Abby Weddle, Jacob Weddle, Amber Walters, Bobby Joe Walters, Maggie Stephens, Christi Stephens, Joshua Stephens and James Stephens. He is also survived by two brothers, Hugh (and Dorothy) Russell of Russell Springs, Ky., and Willard (and Edith) Russell of Rantoul, Ill.
Preceding him in death were his parents; his wife, Gracie Ellen Bolin Russell; a son Larry J. Russell; brothers, Ed Russell, George Russell, Earl Russell, and Thomas Jackson Russell; and sisters, Ola Norman, Alma Russell and Martha Alice Russell.
Visitation will be today at 5 p.m. at the chapel of Somerset Undertaking & Crematory.
A celebration of Joseph’s life will be on Monday, Oct. 26, at 2 p.m. at the chapel of Somerset Undertaking & Crematory with Bro. Don Davis officiating.
Interment will be in the Pine Grove Cemetery in Russell County, Ky.
