William "Bill" Homer Alexander, 85, passed away Monday, October 26, 2009, surrounded by his family in the comfort of his home.
He was born June 20, 1924 in Somerset, Ky. He is survived by his loving wife, Jo Helen Alexander, whom he married July 23, 1949.
Bill served in the Navy on the USS Hercules for three years during which time he served in WWII at Pearl Harbor. He resided with his wife in Indianapolis, Ind., where he drove for Southeastern Trail Ways. After he retired, they returned to Somerset, Ky., where he continued to stay active and was a welcoming, friendly face as he served as the parking lot attendant and greeter at the Pulaski County Court House for 10 years. He was also attended Bronston Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Jo Helen Alexander; his sister, Martha Lewis; his two daughters, Pam (and Joe) Masel and Janet (Dickie) Phelps; four grandchildren, Lynn (and Summer) Lowery, Angel Lowery, Frank Masel and Madison Phelps; and three great-grandchildren, Haley, Caden and Arabella.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Eva Mae and Homer Alexander and two brothers, Howard and Milton.
Visitation for Bill will be held after 6 p.m. today at the chapel of Somerset Undertaking & Crematory.
A celebration of Bill's life will be held Thursday, October 28 at 2 p.m. at the chapel of Somerset Undertaking & Crematory will Rev. John Zupancip and Clarence Floyd officiating. A military service honoring Bill will be performed by the American Legion Post no. 38.
Interment will be in the Mill Springs National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family request that contributions may be sent to Hospice of Lake Cumberland, 100 Parkway Drive, Somerset, KY 42503.
