Ester Whitaker

— Ester B. “Eck” Whitaker, 76, Somerset, passed away Saturday, Nov. 3, 2007, at the Lake Cumberland Medical Center.
She was born June 26, 1931, in Big Stone Gap, Va., the daughter of the late Leonard and Mae White Penley. She was the widow of Oner “Buke” Whitaker; and the mother of Sherry Ann Casella and Daniel Lee Whitaker, both of Somerset, Rida Mae Jewell, Cynthiana, Donna Jean McClure, London, Anthony Wayne Whitaker, Goshen, Ohio, John Lyndon Whitaker, Hamilton, Ohio, Gaylene Fox, Moores Hill, Ind.; and the sister of Lionel Penley, Dayton, Ohio.
She is also survived by a special niece, Geraldine Carroll; 14 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one son, Charles Whitaker; seven sisters, Christine Penley, Rose Delph, Gladys Stewart, Martha Lewis, Mossie Hamblin, Gayneil Penley and Mary Lou Penley; and two brothers, George and Jake Penley.
She was a homemaker and was of the Baptist faith.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 7, 2007, at Bowling Funeral Home in London, Ky., with Jack Harris officiating.
Burial will follow in the Whitaker Cemetery in Pulaski County.
The family will receive friends at Bowling Funeral Home after 10 a.m. Wednesday.
