Somerset — Twilia Foster

Mrs. Twilia Thompson Foster, the daughter of Orville and Bonnie Helton Thompson, was born in Somerset, Ky. on Friday, March 19, 1971 and she departed this life on Thursday, Dec. 12, 2013 in Somerset, Ky. having attained the age of 42 years.

She was united in marriage to Mr. Johnnie Foster on March 30, 1989, and he survives.  

Other survivors include her parents; three daughters, Alisha Foster of Eubank, Ky., Lisa (and Mitchell) Wesley of Eubank, Ky., and Tessa Foster of Eubank, Ky.; two grandchildren, Savannah and Addison Wesley; one brother, David (and Norma) Thompson of Blue John, Ky.; and four sisters, Lisa (and Floyd) Smith of Bronston, Ky., Cathy (and Gary) Loveless of Somerset, Ky., Amber (and Jesse) Gibson of Sloans Valley, Ky. and Aliceson Thompson (Steven Cromer) of Woodstock, Ky.

Twilia was a firefighter for the Eubank Fire Department and a loving wife, daughter, mother, and sister. She was a kind person who will be missed by all who knew her and she leaves a host of relatives and friends who mourn her passing.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 16, 2013 in the chapel of the Pulaski Funeral Home with Bro. Ron Shaw officiating.

Burial will follow in the Grave Hill Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the Pulaski Funeral Home from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 15, 2013.

In lieu of flowers the family requests expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to Pulaski Funeral home in loving memory of Twilia Foster.

James Gosser

Mr. James R. “Jim” Gosser, age 71 of Somerset, Ky., passed away on Saturday, Dec. 14, 2013 at his residence.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 17, 2013 in the chapel of Pulaski Funeral Home with Bro. Larry Butte officiating.

Burial will follow in the Lakeside Memorial Gardens.

The family of Mr. Jim Gosser will receive friends after 10 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 17, 2013 at Pulaski Funeral Home until time for services.

Military honors will be conducted by the American Legion Post #38 Honor Guard.

David Hammer

David Donald Hammer, age 31 of Somerset, passed away on Wednesday, Dec. 11, 2013 at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital.

David was born in Eureka, Calif. on Aug. 8, 1982 to Calvin James Hammer and Patricia Mason Hammer. “Hammer” was loved by all and he touched so many lives during his short time here in Somerset. He worked as a Marine Mechanic at Lake Cumberland Marine, where he worked closely with his best friend and mentor Steve Lopez, specializing in the hi-performance boating industry. He enjoyed going fast on the water, listening to music, and he mostly loved life. David was also a member of the KAOTIK Car club in Florida in which both he and his sister participated.

He was taken from us much too soon in a tragic accident on Wednesday, Dec. 11. God must have needed an angel… to fix something. He will be Dearly missed by all.

We love you, Hammer. Rest in Paradise.

David leaves behind to cherish his memory his father, Calvin James Hammer, Jr.; mother, Patricia Mason Hammer; sisters, Christine Catherine Pehrson, Lisa Marie Wulf, Dee Dee Diane Hammer, and Angela Lopez; brothers-in-law, Brian Wulf, Wayne Pehrson, and Steve Lopez; nephews, Andrew Wayne Pehrson, Joseph Scott Pehrson, and Carter James Hammer; niece, Katie Malana Wulf; along with many uncles, aunts, cousins and friends.

Memorial services were held Saturday, Dec. 14, 2013 at 7 p.m. in the Chapel of Southern Oaks Funeral Home with Bro. David Bullock officiating.

Interment was in the Southern Oaks Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers expressions of sympathy can be made in the form of a donation in David’s name to the Early Alert Canines, 1641 Challenge Drive suite 300, Concord, Calif., 94520.

Noma Hart

Noma L. Hart, age 89, of Miamisburg, Ohio, passed away Thursday, Dec. 12, 2013.  

She was born in Somerset, Ky. on July 14, 1924, to the late Robert J. and Lora E. (Ping) Whitis. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Miamisburg. For many years Noma volunteered at Sycamore Hospital, and she also served with the church nursing home ministry group.

She loved being a homemaker — sewing, baking and cooking.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, Lonnie A. Hart (1986); two sisters, Bernice and Loraine Whitis; and her brother, Clifford Whitis.

She is survived by her daughters, Janice (Maverick) Holman, Sue (Arthur) Gullett and Brenda (J.W.) Winkler; six grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Family and friends may call between 12 p.m. and 2 p.m. (2 hours prior to the service) on Tuesday, Dec. 17 at the Dalton Funeral Home, Corner of State Route 4 and Weaver Rd., Germantown, Ohio, where the funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. with Pastor Stephen Spurgin officiating.

Burial will be at Hillgrove Cemetery.

If desired, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Butler & Warren Counties.

William Maynard

William Harrison Maynard, age 91 of Somerset, Ky. passed away Saturday, Dec. 7, 2013 at VA Medical Center in Lexington, Ky.

He was born on Aug. 21, 1922 in Wapella, Ill. to the late John Morgan and Oma Dean Cox Maynard.

He was of the Baptist faith, he retired as a machinist for Hughes Air Craft, he was a WWII Army Veteran and he was the former owner-operator of Gulf gas station in Old Burnside City.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, L.C. Daniel Maynard; one daughter, Pauline Maynard; five brothers, Frank Maynard, Samuel E. Maynard, Harry Maynard, Henry Maynard and Walter Maynard; and three sisters, Evelynn Maynard Flynn, Alice Maynard and Bessie Maynard.

He is survived by one son, William (Deo) Maynard; one daughter, Fay Maynard of Somerset, Ky.; a special granddaughter, Heather “Molly” Carrender of Somerset, Ky.; and numerous adopted grandchildren.

He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, April 12, 2014 at 2 p.m. at the New Beginnings Worship Center.

Burial will be in the Mill Springs National Cemetery.
