James Dillon Drake, 89, of Chattanooga, Tenn., passed away Thursday, April 18, 2013.
Originally from Somerset, Ky., his 40-year career with the railroad brought him to Chattanooga where he became a member of Hickory Valley Christian Church in 1950. He had many friends at the Local 267 Sheet Metal Union and memorial Cardiac Rehab. He enjoyed spending time working in his yard and serving his neighbors at Woodmore Acres where he was the honorary Mayor of Drummond Drive. He greeted everyone with a friendly handshake and left them with a sincere, "Have a good week!"
He was preceded in death by his parents, Uriah York and Ella Mae Drake; and brothers, Bill and Bob Drake.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Gaynell Drake; daughters, Lou Ann Drake and Jenny (Ronald) Allen; grandchildren, Rebecca Allen (Adam) Bryan and Richard (Callie Phillips) Allen; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 5 p.m. Sunday, April 21, 2013 at Hickory Valley Christian Church with Pastor Gary Armes and Pastor Dale Lovelady officiating.
Burial will be at 12:30 p.m. Monday at Chattanooga National Cemetery.
